The Crimson Retribution (24:7 Theatre Festival)
23 Jul
KERPOW! Amy (Emily Fleeshman), attacked by a knife-wielding man on her way home one evening, is rescued by her very own superhero. ZOCK!
Contending with hapless boyfriend Sean (Alex Rogerson) and his dodgy half ‘bruv’ Kyle (David Degiorgio), Amy begins to rely on Crimson (Paul Sockett) for a measure of sanity and security.
With delivery, movement and phrasing exactly as you’d expect from a comic book hero, Crimson delights the audience – especially when battling Kyle’s arrogant smug bullying ways.
This production is really well designed, with a changing backdrop showing cityscapes, a cartoon bar and a street scene – before which various physical and comic fights (and a car accident) happen. The Crimson Retribution is a funny and original story by Steve Pearce with a very dark edge. Imaginative direction from Clare Howdon ensures bright and lively performances from the whole cast.
The Crimson Retribution, by Shrink Wrapped Theatre is part of 24:7 Theatre Festival. It’s on at New Century House Manchester. Monday 25 July 6pm, Tuesday 26 July 12.30pm, Wednesday 27 July 7.30pm and Friday 29 July 6pm.
